Five star voting
Sonntag, 24/04/2011 - 21:18 – admin
Hi all I've seen that most votes on drawings count 5 stars. It seems like if a picture is getting voted or not is a decision between 5 and no vote. Maybe some of our members didn't know: the voting on Queeky allows to change an individual vote on a drawing afterwards. This means for example: if you want to vote on an unfinished drawing and encourage the artist to complete it, you could vote it "good" (3 stars), add a comment "good but not finished", and give the drawing 5 stars (if you like the result) after it has been finished. There are many possibillities to use the fivestar tool, but how it is currently used, I am wondering if we really need it, or a simple "like" button would be enough. After all it is the communitys decission how we should handle this issue, so please write down your opninions and thoughts about this issue here .... Thanks, happy easter+drawing Admin

Well
I do use the rating system fairly, usually. I usually give a 4 or 5 star rating, but when they steal, 1 star to let them know I disapprove of your evil deeds
which I am NOT happy to do.
Thus, getting too much un-needed upcoming drawings

rating system.
Also, If there was "I Like This" button, people would click it more often, instead of choosing through the many star options

Self-rating
Whilst you are looking at the rating system ... some folk think it is cool to rate their own work.
Okay we can now all see when this happens, but it does create inconsistency in how the ratings stack up.

but I think this wasn't the question

It is relevant IMO!
... Admin asked all of us for opinions on how the current 5 star vote is being used ... and I have made reference here to one way in which the current system is being used (and undoubtedly any other system which permitted self voting would be used)

Point taken
I will keep this all in mind from now on with my voting. (I too do not want to discourage anyone with a lower vote...and so many have done exactly what you are talking about).
Time for a change. I'm in.
I think my view is already known ...
... if people are going to get upset by anything other than 5 it should simply be a "like" vote - but do we not already have that too with the favourites option?
Subjectivity?
Currently the rating system is not meaningful because it is misunderstood. I have great respect for many artists here, but sometimes I either don't feel a piece is their best work or they could have done something technically better, or it simply doesn't appeal to me: if I may give an example - my personal values are against violence in any form at all so I dislike seeing weapons portrayed in art ... now that doesn't mean that an artist who creates that portrayal is a bad artist it just means I have to decide whether to compromise my views to avoid hurting their feelings? and in that context I will always go with my views.
Motivation?
The real problem of using a 5 as an encouragement to youngsters is that encouragement which is exaggerated will stop being an encouragement because they have nothing to exceed or improve upon ... surely it is more encouraging in the long run for them to see steady progression and then consistency?
Reward?
Then we have the scenario that some think they should always get the top mark ... I work just as hard as the first minister but I am never going to earn his salary and begging outside parliament won't change that. My reward from my work is much more than money - it is about respect and working with people to make a tangible difference - but I do rely on my income to pay the bills. My reward in my art is completing a piece I am content with; if others like it too, well that is very nice, but if they don't it isn't going to stop me drawing and painting ... I do it because it is it's own reward.

I THINK YOU RAISED A POINT
A VERY INTERESTING ONE. I ALWAYS VOTE 5, IN MANY CASE IS JUST TO ENCOURAGE THE YOUNG, OR THOSE WHO ARE JUST TRYING TO LEARN, NEW COMERS...BUT OF COURSE THERE ARE SOME (MANY) ARTIST WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE MORE THAN 5.IN THE END, YES I FEEL I COULD DISCOURAGE SOME ONE, OR MAY BE HURTING THEM IF VOTING LESS..I THINK OTHERS WOULD DO THE SAME WITH ME, BUT WHAT LETS ME UNCOMFORTABLE IS WHEN A GREAT COMMENT DOESN'T CORRESPOND TO A VOTE, IT HAPPENED MANY TIME, BUT..WHATEVER, A GREAT COMMENT IS ALSO REALLY NICE!SURELY IT ENCOURAGE ME TO TRY MORE,I THINK "VOTING" WILL ALWAYS BE AN ISSUE..OTHER PLACES SIMILAR HAD THIS ISSUE, AND FOUND THAT A 3 OR FOUR STAR WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS DOWN VOTING..I'D NEVER WANT TO HURT SOMEONE FEELING THAT MAY BE WORKED HARD TO REACH THE FINAL RESULT.i "LIKE" OR NOT WOULD ALSO CALL FOR: "I LIKE IT VERY MUCH", "I AM CRAZY FOR IT"..FOR ME NO DIFFERENCES IN THE END!!!THANK YOU FOR THE CARE AND ATTENTION "ADMIN"...
